Government Fees Discourage Concealed Carry- summary

August 25, 2017

Summary-

Thirty states issue concealed carry permits to the law abiding citizens who ask for them.  Two third of us live in those “shall-issue” states where we were issued 14 million permits to carry a concealed firearm in public.  We paid to exercise that “right.”  The state mandated fees and training requirements vary widely from state to state.  States that imposed more hours of training also imposed high fees.  Ordinary citizens responded to those costs in predictable ways.  Millions of us were discouraged from legal concealed carry due to the costs and restrictions.

may issue, shall issue, and unrestricted carry states

Politicians impose all kinds of requirements before citizens receive permission to carry a concealed firearm in public.  The common excuse is public safety, and there is always another infringement that can be rationalized to make us safer.  We paid over 4 billion dollars and spent over 65 million hours in class to receive our carry permits.  We did this to exercise the human right to keep and bear arms.  The burdensome fees and training requirements disarmed approximately 8 million US citizens.  There is no evidence that these gun-control infringements actually reduce crime.  More than twice as many of us would carry concealed if unrestricted carry, (also called constitutional carry) were the law of the land.  The data indicates that the number of people carrying in unrestricted states is slightly over 10 percent of the population.

Disarming 8 million people is an infringement that even a liberal judge should understand.

Those costs are not spread evenly or fairly.  The costs are also paid in more than money and time.  Gun-control disproportionately disarms the poor.  Poor people, particularly those who live in our inner city, face a greater risk of crime and violence.  They are significantly more likely to be victims of violent crime than the average US citizen.

Disarming those of us who are at the greatest risk of crime puts more of us in danger and costs lives.

Part one- state imposed costs to obtain a permit
Part two- the effect of monetary fees on the rate of concealed carry
Part three- the effect of mandated training on the rate of concealed carry
Part four- deregulating concealed carry and the true cost of infringement

The Second Amendment to the US Constitution and corresponding state constitution provisions are the only “permits” which any American citizen or lawful guest 18 years of age or older who has not been declared incompetent by a jury of his peers and not imprisoned or under sentence for a crime need. All other federal and state restrictions are unconstitutional and should be declared so or repealed.

Well, go move to a permitless carry State then. I suggest Arizona.
Otherwise, those States that charge a fee are covering their administrative costs.
You want they should do it for free? A Driver License isn’t free, you have to pay for costs associated with issuing you one.
You know the FBI charges $18 for a Criminal Background Check, which some of the States require for a carry permit, NICS isn’t good enough for them.
I’m not going to complain about the cost at $50 for 5 years here in South Carolina.

As important, if not moreso, is the utter disregard for the safety and privacy of CCL applicants/holders and their personally identifiable information. The 5th Column fka the 4th Estate routinely threatens to doxx CCL holders in any of their latest op-ed hit pieces against the 2d Amend. In my case, the fee is not prohibitive, the violation of my personal privacy and the betrayal of that information to any who ask and FOIA is what prevents me from seeking such “papers.” On principle, were our borders well controlled and parole violating violent criminal parolees well punished, the chances of LE encountering an adult who is not covered by the 2d Amend would be near nil. But no. The America-hating Left plunders the festering pots of mediocre performances on the part of all charged with protecting her.

In writing to William Jarvis, Jefferson said, “You seem . . . to consider the judges as the ultimate arbiters of all constitutional questions; a very dangerous doctrine indeed, and one which would place us under the despotism of an oligarchy.”

The germ of dissolution of our federal government is in the constitution of the federal Judiciary; an irresponsible body (for impeachment is scarcely a scare-crow) working like gravity by night and by day, gaining a little today and a little tomorrow, and advancing its noiseless step like a thief, over the field of jurisdiction, until all shall be usurped.”

Arms control of the people is not an enumerated power!

video on arms, here it is: https://vimeo.com/60944105

State concealed carry laws which require a “permit” is an idea crafted in the pits of hell. The real purpose is to register gun owners! People think it is so cool to have a permit for concealed carry – they don’t understand that it is like the free sample of heroin.

The TRUTH about the “supremacy clause” – our Constitution does not delegate to the government authority to restrict our arms, ammunition, regulate firearms dealers, do background checks, etc.
