The killer had no criminal record because of an arrangement between the Broward County school system and the sheriff’s office. This despite being expelled for bringing a weapon to school along with other run-ins that should have resulted in a criminal record.
As noted at the time by Max Eden in the City-Journal:
But the explicit aim of Broward’s new approach to school safety was to keep students like off the police’s radar. If the Sheriff’s department didn’t know about his deeply troubling behavior, perhaps it was because they were no longer supposed to know about it.

The thing that you, your friend, and the people who wrote the articles linked from your friends article don’t want to mention is race. The program to keep kids out of the “school to prison pipeline” was an Obama (in)justice compartment program to keep BLACK and HISPANIC kids out of the “school to prison pipeline”.
It did not apply to White, or Asian kids. If Cruz had been White or Asian then he WOULD have been arrested and involuntarily committed. He would not have been able to buy the rifle. This mass murder was the result of the Obama admenstruation’s racist policies.
