A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Gun Control

March 31, 2018

The Socialists and their donors decided to push gun control and firearms confiscation. That didn’t turn out quite the way they planned. Our culture is changing faster than our politics and our politicians can follow. Public perception is changing more rapidly than polls can record opinions and faster than the media can spin their agenda.

There was a lot of spin. Leftists groups put on a very large public relations presentation. MoveOn and Bloomberg helped pay for it. About 10 percent of the marchers in DC were actually were under 18 years old. Most of those teens were bussed in from Democrat controlled cities. In contrast, 70 percent of the marchers were women recycled from the Women’s march against Trump. Their average age was 49 years old. 89 percent reported voting for Hillary. Firearms were a secondary issue after their disdain for Trump.

What was sold as a youth movement against violence was really a plastic surgery facelift for old leftists causes. Of course, you didn’t hear that from the mainstream news.

We heard quite a change in tone from the gun prohibitionists. Gone was the veil of “sensible gun-safety regulation”.  Marchers held signs saying “Fuck the NRA” while politicians called the NRA a terrorists organization, (though a unique terrorist organization since crime falls when the NRA convention comes to town.)

There was something strange that didn’t happen, and it was conspicuous by its absence. The FBI failed in many of our recent mass murders, yet I couldn’t find a single sign at the march telling the FBI to do its job. Today, the big-state gun prohibitionists are calling to abolish the Second Amendment. They want to ban firearms and take them, “Yes, I’ll take them from your cold dead hands.” Big government fascists don’t need to be kind anymore. Not with billionaire bucks funding their media events. They want only the government to have guns, a government that they control.

The rest of us drew very different conclusions after these last mass murders. We noticed the string of government failures.

The Air Force failed before the murders in a Southland, Texas church. They failed to report a domestic abuser, a man jailed for assault and battery. The USAF didn’t report him to the federal background check system even though he should have been a prohibited person and unable to buy a firearm. Their failure contributed to the avoidable deaths of 26 men, women, and children.

We saw the police and FBI fail again in Parkland, Florida. They ignored repeated reports of criminal activity. Law enforcement officers and schools officials are required to report crimes they see. Instead, they turned their back and refused to turn in the young man who became a violent murder. Political correctness was more important than people’s lives. Political correctness lead to the deaths of another 17 people. These officials turned their back on all of us..just as the school resource officers turned their back on Parkland students once the shooting started. Broward County, you voted for that.

The rest of us got engaged rather than walk away. We changed our minds and we changed our behavior. We protect ourselves regardless of what our thought leaders say. We supported the NRA and Second Amendment Foundation..a lot. Donations to the NRA tripled. I have unconfirmed reports that NRA membership jumped up by about 25 percent, though some of those memberships may be from former members who let their membership lapse. I can confirm that 18 to 21 year olds joined the Second Amendment Foundation at 10 times their usual rate. Even CNN reported on the increased support for the NRA. Let that fact sink in for a minute.

You and I didn’t stop there. We saw that gun free churches can be a killing ground. We chose to defend churches. Church safety teams were often started or reinforced after parrisioners pointedly asked church leaders what they were doing to protect the flock. Churches sent their members to receive safety training.

We saw that schools can be easy targets for madmen. We asked our school boards to protect our children. We didn’t ask for another government program and budget appropriation. Instead, we asked the government to get out of our way. In some cases, it wasn’t as much of a request as a statement of fact.

Teachers unions said that teachers don’t want to be armed at school. Teachers actions said quite the opposite. Teachers flocked to take firearms and self-defense training where it was offered. The results to those training opportunities were literally overwhelming. A Michigan firearms instructor opened up part of his class for teachers. He offered free firearms safety instruction and some self-defense training. More than 300 teachers came into his shop and signed up in person. His classes are booked for months. An Ohio sheriff offered a similar course of instruction. His class is usually 30 to 50 students. The sheriff received hundreds of requests.

We saw similar results across the US. Interested teachers came from states that already allow armed staff in schools. We also saw strong interest from teachers in states that expressly deny arming school staff.

Classes in 10 states where armed staff are allowed or with programs already in place
Arizona, Colorado, Georgia, Kentucky, Michigan, Butler County Ohio, Licking County Ohio, Oregon, blue mountain school district Pennsylvania, Cranberry Pennsylvania, North Whitehall Township Pennsylvania, Orem Utah, Saint George Utah, Sandy Utah,

Classes in 6 states where armed staff are prohibited
Florida, Crystal Lake Illinois, Godfrey Illinois, Nebraska, Perry Township New Jersey, Rio Grande New Jersey, South Carolina, Wyoming

We are working around the law to protect ourselves when our laws make self-defense difficult. Some of these states prohibit armed school staff. Honest sheriffs know that they can’t have as many armed resource officers as they want on campus. Some sheriffs appointed select school staff as special, reserve, or auxiliary deputies so the staff could legally carry arms at school. Unlike the Sheriff in Broward County Florida, these sheriffs were determined to do what they could so our children were protected.

For the most part any intelligent person could see right trough those demonstrations.. It seem the left Libitards are always ready to rely on Bloomberg and his money. How else could they mount such a theatrical display at a moments notice.
The Left is very good at tossing Bloomberg’s cash out. And making little Socialists of kids..

    Hear, Hear!

We have a long way to go to protect ourselves, our families, students, teachers and others from the policies of the modern prohibitionists. We best get crackin’!

Conservatives And Christians Need To Apologize To Bill Clinton And Barack Obama..
    Chuck Baldwin Live
But now Donald Trump is doing the EXACT same things in spades, and most conservatives and Christians are not only NOT railing against him, they are actually defending him. Even as the Republicans pass more gun control.
Trump pushing for more gun control, there are several backdoor gun control measures in the omnibus bill that Trump just signed. “Fix NICS” and “red flag” measures are included in this massive spending bill. Things like establishing a national anonymous tip line and training America’s public school teachers to become spies for the state by monitoring and assessing the mental health of America’s public school children are included. I wrote on this subject extensively last week. See the column here: Red Flag Laws Mean Red Flag Rising

The bill also strengthens background checks to include things like denying firearms to anyone who was convicted of a crime that carries a punishment of a year in jail. This, of course, would include many misdemeanors. It also includes “fugitives from justice.” While that sounds reasonable, remember that if you have not paid a parking or speeding ticket, you are technically a “fugitive from justice.” And believe me, Justice Department computers will not bother to exempt those “crimes” from real crimes. You will simply be a “fugitive from justice” and, accordingly, prohibited from purchasing a firearm. Oh, and once you are added to the “no buy” national database, good luck ever getting off.
Trump is running roughshod over the Constitution and is contributing to the inevitable financial collapse of America. I suppose we shouldn’t be surprised.
The federal debt will be the downfall of this country. These deficits are NOT sustainable. Honest economists have been warning us for years about the inevitable economic collapse being caused by Washington’s maniacal spending habits. But hardly anyone—not even so-called conservatives and Christians—is paying any attention.

You forgot the FBI failure for the Pulse nightclub shooting, possibly because the shooter’s father was an FBI informant they didn’t look to closely at the shooter despite repeated red flags. Omar Mateen was investigated twice over a year apart, based on separate tips, and determined not to be a threat each time…

This article betrays an understanding of background checks. Background checks require facts, like whether someone has been convicted or not. Suspicions don’t count. To make suspicions count requires more time and personal contact, which is called licensing. Which is why most countries do licensing – it’s not because they don’t get it.

Trump was elected to be the pro-2A president. In the wake of Parkland he AND the NRA have called for 4A-violating ERPOs and GVROs and a ban on bump stocks (private property) and now, because of this, anti-gun bills are exploding in Congress and state legislatures. It’s BULLSHIT.

Yes, your comments and observations are exactly correct. However, we have lost ground in Vermont and Florida. We also lost any chance of National Reciprocity in the near future. The anti-rights side has put forth a very powerful/expensive push. The use of “bump stock” as a wedge issue was very smart on their part. For two reasons, namely it was hard for our legislators/president to not go along since very few people would be affected and justification for “automatic” simulation is hard to find in the general public. Like the vast majority of gun owners I have no desire or reason to want a bump stock and consider it more of a “toy” than having any useful purpose. Now, I do think that we have to stand up to the principal and not the infringement in this case. The ATF proposal is still not a regulation, so we all need to voice our “informed” comments against changing the definition of a machine gun

You forgot to mention that Kalltforniya has introduced legislation that would forbid school districts from allowing CCW holders from going on school grounds. So far it is just pending but I expect it will pass and be signed into law.

As their voices grow ever more shrill, the anti gun, anti civil rights types, pretty much the same thing, grow less and less worth listening to.

As a European Jewish LEGAL immigrant, now a patriotic American citizen, I came to this country to escape Liberal Fascism and enjoy the freedom that the constitution ensures. I am disgusted by so called Americans who take their freedom for granted and want to degrade and erode this freedom. If you hate this country that much, pack your bags and move to Europe, where you can live in the Liberal Fascist utopia. I shall continue to keep my guns, for sport and self defense and protect, if the time arises, my fellow Americans from tyranny. I have six million reasons why I am armed, nothing says NEVER AGAIN more than an armed JEW ! a PROUD AMERICAN to boot.

We’ve seen some bizarre suggestions to deal with school shootings, including having a bucket of rocks in classrooms, to throw rocks at shooters. One more practical, and familiar method has yet to be explored: teachers quite commonly carry laser pointers to aid in their instructions. One company makes a green model that can be switched from single beam to fractured, many points of light, enabling the holder to paint someone’s face like a paintbrush, easily hitting the eyes. Mine sent one very large, aggressive dog running away in bright sunlight. Got mine through http://www.survivalfrog.com but they say they’re no longer carrying them and have yet to give me a contact address to or name of their supplier. I suspect a government or law-enforcement agency would have better luck in making contact, getting and testing these less-than-lethal force weapons. Lethal force should be a LAST resort!

If lethal force is relegated to the last resort, it will be too late. And btw, rocks thrown by students at a gun-wielding murderer is not as bizarre as you may think. It will certainly disrupt his OODA loop and a good hit with a hand-sized river rock might well take him out of action completely. I favor training faculty, staff, and students in how to ambush a shooter, get inside his arc of fire and cold-cock him while levering his weapon out of his hand. The point is, there is no magical way of stopping him, but anything you can do to distract him and give him more things to worry about than finding targets is going to save lives. But that takes being of a mindset that says the individuals present are not going to run away screaming; they are going to kick ass and take names. Students and faculty and staff can be trained to that mindset.

America needs a National Militia based on the Swiss model. A National Militia would introduce us to one another, to Weapons, and to Self Discipline. Those three things are necessary in a Republic.

i have a hard time with the inane comment from Larry King regarding the 2nd amendment being passed to fight off slaves! The second amendment could actually be said to have been passed to fight off the enslavement of the American colonists. Also there is a little time difference if he was talking about the revolutionary war.
