Who is to Blame for School Shootings?

February 15, 2018

I’ll cut right to the point. We can stop murderers from killing our kids in school, but it isn’t easy. The politicians, particularly the Florida politicians, are against it. What can we do to save our students?

We’ve asked the people who train SWAT cops what they can do. They said it takes too long to assemble a SWAT team. It takes too long to put the team in position near the school. It takes too long to clear the building and time is the enemy. Several students and staff will be shot every minute.

We asked the local police officers and sheriffs deputies. They don’t even get the 911 call until the shooting has been going on for several minutes. It takes time for law enforcement officers to race to the scene. They then have to enter the school and find the attacker before they can stop him. That is 15 minutes lost right there. Law enforcement will not let medical personnel into the building until they know the crime scene is safe. That means the cops will clear every classroom before the EMTs enter the building and start treating the injured. Those 45 minutes are critical.

Sheriffs said that takes too long. They said they need armed staff in the school. We protect our money with guns, but Florida politicians say we can’t protect children with armed classroom teachers.

Let me correct that statement. We can’t protect OUR children with armed staff. The children of celebrities and politicians have bodyguards. Our children don’t. It seems that only the children of the elites deserve protection.

That isn’t acceptable. Several states have programs to arm school staff. They train volunteer school staff to stop the threat and treat the injured until police and EMTs arrive.  These volunteer teachers desperately want a chance for their kids to go home alive. These are the same teachers who will stop a bullet with their bodies to save “their kids”.

I want everyone to go home alive, both teachers and students. The training program is called FASTER, which stands for Faculty / Administrator Safety Training & Emergency Response. They’ve trained thousands of teachers and have thousands of man-years of experience with armed staff in schools. Why aren’t they in your school? Learn about them at fastersaveslives.org

The Florida politicians will propose more prohibitions, more ink on paper. That hasn’t stopped a single murderer yet. Ink on paper doesn’t keep blood off the floor, but ink on paper fools voters time after time.

Will it work this time too?

According to Andrew Cuomo and his progressive communist party, every AR15 and magazine that holds more than 7 . . . (now by court order 10) bullets, possessed by law abiding American Citizens, IS TO BLAME! So we should TURN THEM ALL IN, as they fan the flames of racial hatred, fund, recruit, organize, and precipitate MOB VIOLENCE – call for violent revolution – call for WHITE GENOCIDE – we should SURRENDER the POWER intended by the Second Amendment, settle for a limited right to low capacity sporting arms that make THEM comfortable in their ability to control a vulnerable population – ACCEPT UNENDING REPETITIVE INCREMENTAL CITIZEN DISARMAMENT – AND TRUST THEM TO KEEP US SAFE!

At least they have a catchy name for their FEMA Reorientation/Eradication camps!

Like it or not, the only sure way to stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun. Unfortunately, there are three dangers in allowing teachers and school staff members to carry concealed weapons: (1) Human nature being what it is, it is inevitable that some armed teacher will leave a gun in a desk drawer, briefcase, or purse, to be found by a student. (2) Armed school staff will be at a terrible disadvantage using small concealable handguns against a heavily armed active shooter who may even be wearing body armor. (3) Armed teachers will be in mortal danger from law enforcement officers responding to reports of an active shooter.

In my opinion, the best solution to mitigating the casualty count in school active shooter incidents is to pre-stage AR-15 or similar rifles in secure, alarmed containers at numerous locations on the campus, along with armored clearly identifiable “raid” jackets for responding school staff. Specially trained teachers and staff members need only carry a key to the container, greatly reducing the chance of a weapon falling into the wrong hands. Upon hearing an alarm, or shots fired, responding teachers could don the raid jacket and take up an effective weapon within seconds, when delay equates to lost lives. Responding law enforcement would be instantly able to identify “good guy” armed responders.

Pre-staging effective weapons and protective gear like we do fire extinguishers will minimize the danger of weapons on campus, while maximizing the chances of quickly stopping an armed intruder.

My Credentials: I have more than 40 years of law enforcement and law enforcement training experience. I am a retired Special Agent of the US Army Criminal Investigation Command (CID), and am the retired Director of Advanced Force Tactics, Inc., a firm devoted to teaching judgmental use of force and gunfighting tactics, including active shooter response, to law enforcement agencies nationwide.

Gary, I hope you investigate faster training. I think you’d like it.

I think you observations are ones that others have expressed. However, if we look at the places where teachers are already armed (e.g. Utah, for last 10 years or so) none of these bad things have happened. Also, they have not have a mass school killing event. The other thing to consider, none of the plans “force” teachers/staff to be armed, the ones that would be armed are the same group that are armed when they go to Walmart. Again, facts show that this group of people are far more law abiding than even the police. They also have a better record of not “shooting” the innocents by mistake.

Meanwhile, while you are running for your safe lockers to obtain a firearm the murder is cutting down victims. Sorry, your dog won’t hunt. Try again as your credentials are not that impressive.

You are not going to save kids’ lives by coming up with cool acronyms. Your job as a parent is to take your kids out of the so-called public schools. Send them to a private school, a church school, or teach them at home. Then work to abolish what they really are – government schools. “Public” sounds innocuous – it is not. Kids are at risk in government schools: academically, physically, spiritually, and morally. If you care about your kids, get them out. And again, never call them public schools. They are government schools, and using that term is a very easy way to plant a kernel of truth in people’s minds when discussing any related issue; especially physical safety. The belief that the government will protect you is a myth. Once again, the FBI knew about the threat and did nothing to prevent it.

btw, schools shootings are a predictable result of the combination of teaching impressionable young minds that there are no moral absolutes, that man determines right and wrong, and that they are the descendant of an ape-like creature and putting them on psychoactive drugs. A lethal combination that we have seen in all of the school shootings.

Here are two great articles to read on the subject of school shootings and how to PREVENT them (not to minimize the carnage):

Are you suggesting that it might be more practical to for people to prepare for killing a few psycho mass shooters, than to disarm 75,000,000 or so Americans sufficiently to ensure that, should any of them go bezerk, they won’t be able to do much harm?
