Christopher Booker comments on the Global Warmists.

“When future generations come to look back on the alarm over global warming that seized the world towards the end of the 20th century, much will puzzle them as to how such a scare could have arisen. They will wonder why there was such a panic over a 0.4 per cent rise in global temperatures between 1975 and 1998, when similar rises between 1860 and 1880 and 1910 and 1940 had given no cause for concern…”  Taken from Christopher Booker at the Telegraph.  Read him here==>> XX

I see it slightly differently.  Politicians sought power.  Environmentalists and the news media sought relevance.  Sadly, we took them at their word and did not question their motives.

Politicians told us that we have sinned and they can save us.  A segment of society agreed.  That segment wanted to tear down industrial society.  Industrial society is a world they do not understand and could never build.  “Global warming” offered politicians and environmentalists a chance to rule over everyone.  All the politicians, environmentalists and the media had to do was give up their integrity.

It was a small price to pay since they had so little.

“… did not question their motives… ” That would be one of the most difficult things for people to comprehend. Everyone, even the hermit in his caved, has some ulterior motives. Normally, a hermit can’t do much damage, other than maybe to himself. But with politicians people need to understand it’s very different: they have been shown to use incredible sums of public moneys to achieve either nothing or even do harm, just to aggrandize themselves. And the worst and costliest is, if a politician wants to leave a “legacy”. A hundred presidents, a hundred legacies and you’re dead.
