The US Debt Made Real

March 24, 2013

I saw this video and it made my stomach churn uncomfortably.  It describes irresponsible adults selling children into debt.  The reality is too close for comfort.  Watch it here.

Debt made real

The selfishness of the borrower is painful.  That discomfort would be easy to ignore if the video were inaccurate.  It isn’t.  The  relationship of the lender- to borrower- to child is too close to the truth about our government and government spending to shrug off the video as clever satire.

Here are the numbers as a graph.debt income per person

Here they are as words- The US Debt Made Understandable.

I continue to wonder if we should pay our debt or default.  At some point, someone has to be working to pay off that debt, and fewer and fewer of us are working.  A lot of baby boomers are going to find out they get to work until they die.
