A Simple Explanation of Gun Control Politics

January 2, 2013

I think this explains gun-control politics.

Disarming criminals and crazy people is terribly difficult while disarming honest citizens is quite easy.

A politician won’t do something difficult when he can do something easy and claim credit for it.

It may not be much, but it is original.. I think.

I’ve been saying that for a while. I think the only way gun control could actually help in this country is if it was an all or nothing approach and they went the way of Britain and just took ALL the guns, because the crazies take their guns from whoever they know who own them legally and the really determined criminals would find a way to get them anyhow. Taking away the right to have ANY guns wouldn’t solve the whole problem, but it would maybe make it a bit harder for fools that choose their father/mother/husband’s/etc gun out of convenience.

ARQ, I don’t know what you’re talking about. Handgun crime has grown in Britain after their total handgun ban, and theirs is an island nation.

I think you’re confusing the myth of gun control with the facts of gun control. Here is a good reference.

The most important fact of that article is in the first sentence. GANG violence. I am talking about people who get their guns because they happen to know a friend or family member has them and they have easy access. The Newtown perpetrator used his mother’s own guns on her. If he hadn’t had easy access to guns, the whole thing might have turned out quite a bit differently. Gangs fall into those categories I mentioned of hard criminals who will go to extremes to get guns, not just any old idiot who has easy access. Cut the easy access, cut the death toll.

Ah. Now I see. You are a prohibitionist. Why didn’t you say so in the first place.

I’m not. By your measure Chicago should be a safe paradise.
