Chicago Politician sets a new Record for Hypocrisy
It is hard to be a record setting hypocrite if you’re a Chicago politician because you stand on the shoulders of convicted giants. Illinois State Senator Donne Trotter (D-Chicago) was arrested at the security checkpoint at O’Hare international airport. Trotter was charged with a felony for carrying a handgun and ammunition in his carry-on bag as he tried to board. That is minor news, except Trotter is a rabid anti-gun politician.(1)
The 62 year old politician said he works with a security firm and has a permit to transport the gun to and from work. He obviously appreciates the right of self-defense and thinks firearms arms are useful tools. Fine, but Donne Trotter also wanted to advance in Illinois politics.
Senator Trotter adopted the Democrat party line and the anti-gun stance since he was in Illinois. When questioned about second amendment rights of self-defense, Trotter claimed that common citizens are neither mentally stable nor trained enough to be armed. Common citizens would make so many mistakes that they would endanger all of us. Trotter voted against allowing concealed carry permits to Illinois citizens. The Senator was not lenient. Trotter refused to support a measure softening the Illinois penalties for carrying without a license. (1)
We all make mistakes. Trotter packed for his airline flight the night before his trip, and he forgot to clear his bags. It is easy to make that mistake and he is now headed into a legal meat-grinder, the same legal system that you or I would face. I pity him. I’m not angry that Democrat Senator Trotter has a gun. I’m disgusted he thinks that mere citizens without political connections should be disarmed while he is armed. I’m not surprised by Senator Trotter’s attitude. The Democrat Machine politicians I’ve met are elitists.
I can excuse that he forgot to clear his luggage. I can’t excuse his lack of integrity. Dishonesty and disdain are forever. As Dr. Suzanna Gratia Hupp said, ”How a politician stands on the Second Amendment tells you how he or she views you as an individual… as a trustworthy and productive citizen, or as part of an unruly crowd that needs to be lorded over, controlled, supervised, and taken care of.”
(1) Trotter did vote to allow mail order ammunition in Illinois.
