The District of Columbia Abuses Our Men in Uniform

June 12, 2012

This makes me so angry that I have to work to present the facts to you.  Deep breath.

Yeah, I know that city governments often abuse their citizens.  I know it is worse if you’re not politically connected.  Emily Miller reports how military veterans are abused in the District of Columbia.  I’m pissed off at the injustice.  If you break the law it is better to be a government employee than a citizen.  DC can jail you and then withdraw the charges without risk.  The D.C. police take property without legal cause.  Their lawyers make false claims before a judge without legal penalty.  Yeah, it is a heck of a lot better to be a government than a citizen wearing a uniform.  It pains me that we treat anyone that way, but particularly our veterans.  These are not the ideals our military fought to defend.  I guess those outdated ideas of free men and limited government were replaced by big-city political power.  Someone should tell the military men and women who defend us and the tax payer who pays for it all.

One ray of hope is that Emily Miller is writing about it.  Thank you Ms. Miller.  I wrote my congressman, Darrell Issa, a few weeks ago about this issue.  His staff called me back, but now I have to see if they followed through.  I’ll bet the problem is not confined to DC, though that is a place to start.

Here are Ms. Miller’s articles in that series.  Take your blood pressure medications before you read them.

DC gives wounded soldier his guns

Vet brutalized over guns

DC snares another vet at Walter Reed Medical Center

DC SWAT team trashes vets apartment..without warrant

DC loses vet in jail for two weeks

DC hides abuse of Iraq vet

DC breaks numerous laws in handling of army veteran

Here is a video interview of Miller on this series by Reason Magazine.   Here is a video of her being interviewed by the NRA about how DC treated  Sargent Corrigan.  I wrote about Ms Miller before, but she has earned a category of her own.  Here is a list of her recent articles on the Washington Times website.

So, what are you going to do about this if you live in the US?  It deserves a phone call to your congress critter at least.
