The Folly of Fairness
I read about the new taxes we need for fairness. Since we are out to take from the rich, let’s be fair for a moment.
The median annual income is 49K per year. We will confiscate ALL income above that amount to be fair. The average person works 40 hours per week so you must work that many hours. You don’t have a job? Man, that must stink to be you, but now you will work for free because we need to be fair to everyone. You see, to be equal, it is only fair that you work, not that you’re paid. We already agreed that we will take from those who have. Therefore we must demand that all give what they have. If the state will rob all of their money then it must also rob all of their time in order to be equally fair to everyone.
Now it stinks to be a single mom working part time, a working student or an adult with an ill relative. Sigh. At least it is fair, and that is all that really matters. After all, we wouldn’t want to discriminate or allow freedom of choice.
Sure, we can ignore that the distribution of income changes with time, or that the US is as equitable as China and more equal than Mexico. See the Gini Coefficent here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Gini_since_WWII.svg
How does fairness look now?
I was looking for an image of green army men, but all of them colored gray. I couldn’t find it.
